CLOUD ATLAS - 5 Movies That Changed My Life

Cloud Atlas is an important film to me.

It is several stories, set over several different time periods (spanning thousands of years).

Each of the stories is inspired by the previous story.

For me it is a powerful reminder that nothing that we do for good, no matter how small it may seem, is wasted.

That each act is tied together with all other acts of kindness.

As someone who tries to live ethically and environmentally conscious, the answer that i hear so often in response to my life is "as one person, your little bit won't make a difference". In other words, for every bit you recycle, millions more tons end up in landfill, for every bit of green energy you use, millions more KW of energy are fossil fueled. 

But Cloud Atlas shows that our small actions reverberate throughout eternity.

The films ends with one such conversation. A father in law states to his son in law "No matter what you do, it will never amount to anything more than a single drop in a limitless ocean", and the son in law replies "What is an ocean but a multitude of drops"

May we be those that understand the importance of our small actions. May we be those that are not discouraged in our journey to care, and may we be those that put drops of kindness into an ocean of indifference.

Philosopher Alvin Plantinga called the problem of suffering “the only good objection to God”. The often quoted argument goes:  “if God is all good (all benevolent) then God has the desire to end suffering, and if God is all-powerful (omnipotent) then God has the ability to end suffering. SANDWICHES - Enhance Your Reading of Mark's Gospel

As followers of Christ, we look to the Bible as one of our main sources of inspiration and guides in our lives. So it follows that we all want our times reading the Bible to be as rich as possible. Learning more about the Bible is one way to help with this. It is particularly helpful when we know the types of things that the authors of the books used to aid us in this task. To this end I wanted to talk about something that has enriched my reading of the gospel of Mark: Markan Sandwiches (also called interpolations ). Essentially, what Mark does is get one story within his gospel, and inserts it inside another story ; this serves the purpose of giving both stories a greater sense of meaning. It’s purpose is to make the reader stop and think “Mark is trying to tell us something important here”.
